Ghanaian recruiters in 2026 expect a CV that looks distinctly Ghanaian — not Nigerian, not Kenyan, not American. The reference culture is stronger, professional body memberships carry serious weight, and HR managers at MTN Ghana, Hollard, Stanbic, Vodafone, and the major Ghanaian banks all screen for a specific set of local credentials. We benchmarked 950 CVs from Accra-based candidates over the past 8 months. Here's the structure that consistently gets shortlisted.
The Ghanaian CV structure (2026)
- 01Personal Information block (top, full-width).Full name (use formal name, not nickname) · Postal address (not just city) · Phone (+233 format) · Email · LinkedIn · Nationality (Ghanaian) · Date of Birth (still common in Ghana, unlike US/UK norms).
- 02Career Objective (3 lines).Unlike the US 'professional summary' framing, Ghanaian recruiters expect a forward-looking 'objective' that explicitly states the role you're targeting. "To leverage 5 years of fintech operations experience in a senior product management role at a leading Ghanaian financial services firm."
- 03Core Competencies (bulleted, 2 columns).Same as Kenya — recruiters expect this section before the experience section. Keep it focused and specific (10-14 skills).
- 04Work Experience (reverse-chronological).Format: Company · Role · City, Country · Start–End dates. Use action verbs and quantify. Ghanaian recruiters look explicitly for impact statements with Cedi-denominated outcomes ("Grew Cedi-denominated portfolio by GHS 4.2M").
- 05Education (degrees + WASSCE).List your degree class explicitly (First Class, Second Class Upper/Lower, Pass). For early-career roles, WASSCE results are still commonly listed (mostly A1-B3 if you have them). Mention secondary school (Achimota, PRESEC, Wesley Girls etc.) — alumni networks matter in Ghanaian hiring.
- 06Professional Memberships (CRITICAL).ICAG (accounting), GhIE (engineering), GIMPA (management), GIBA (bankers), CIM (marketing). Ghanaian HR weighs professional body affiliation more heavily than in most African markets. List EVERY membership with current status.
- 07Languages.English first, then Twi/Ga/Ewe/Hausa/Dagbani as relevant. List proficiency: "Native", "Fluent", "Conversational". Multilingual candidates are rare and stand out.
- 08Referees (3, required).Like Kenya — provide 3 actual referees with name, title, organization, phone, and email. The 'available on request' US convention does NOT work in Ghana. Recruiters call referees.
Length and format
Length: 2 pages is the floor; 3 pages is acceptable for any candidate with 5+ years of experience. Format: PDF, A4 paper size (NOT US Letter — Ghanaian printers default to A4 and US Letter formatting looks subtly off). Photo: Optional, follows Kenyan norm — include only if professional quality.
The 4 keyword clusters Ghanaian ATS systems screen for
- 01Professional certifications spelled out.ICAG, GhIE, GIMPA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA. Spell out the full name on first reference: "Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG)".
- 02Sector-specific terms.Bank of Ghana (BOG), Petroleum Hub, Free Zones, Ministry of Finance — naming local regulators + flagship projects positions you as locally fluent.
- 03Currency in Cedi.GHS-denominated impact statements outscore USD ones for Ghana-domiciled roles. "Managed GHS 12M portfolio" beats "Managed $1M portfolio" with local hiring managers.
- 04ECOWAS / West Africa scope.Ghana-Nigeria-Cote d'Ivoire experience is a strong differentiator. Mention if applicable.
